Westerberg High is ruled by a shoulder-padded, scrunchie-wearing junta: Heather, Heather and Heather, the hottest and cruelest girls in all of Ohio. And Spanish National Dance company version is stunning.Heathers the Musical by Impact Theatre Company Heathers the Musicalīased on the classic 1989 film. Lest anyone think I’m being snobby I’ve seen and enjoyed The Mark Morris and Mathew Bourne updates. The audience, limited to 70% by covid, applauded the cast at curtain call. But no sexual awakening for Clara, no “ was it a dream or reality “ conundrum. The breaking of the nutcracker doll by pulling its arms off, bizarrely mirrored by detached arms being used as props in act 2. I think I got the narrative of childrens home, presents given and cruelly snatched away, coming to life in an alternative world of escape. Reverting to tradition for the dances between the sugar plum fairy and the nutcracker prince. Choreography was uninspired, lacked feeling and was very angular. Snowflake scene transposed to late on in second act. I can only speculate that the choreographer was having some unpleasant drug induced trip when he conceived replacing the mice and soldiers with spiders and frogs, complete with flippers. The traditional parts of the score were played very well by the Liceu orchestra. They added nothing, apart from drawing out an unpleasant choreographic experience even longer than need be. Somehow they added 40 minutes to the score. The story telling a mixed, incoherent jumble. Elements stolen from Mathew Bourne and Hans von Manen at random. On the evidence of this, he deserves to be sacked. Director of ballet at Theatre Capitole du Toulouse. This was an update of The Nutcracker by a respected French etoile and choreographer. Carefully restoring all that was good about the auditorium and adding modern facilities, wide public areas, and lifts. ![]() The rebuild, 20 years ago, never ceases to impress. Good leg room, wide seats and unrestricted view on Tier 3. Fast and direct access on the level ( I use a wheelchair ) from the side entrance on Carrer S Pau. Especially when it’s a visiting company from a respected producing house. It’s always difficult to separate out a review of a theatrical venue from the production you see. I intend to write to the director and various board members but I want the public at large to know how the Liceu treats people. I can't believe the Liceu would allow such treatment of their patrons and would refuse to have some flexibility under special circumstances such as a death in the family. I was so very upset that on top of not wanting to help me she lied to me repeatedly, I was insulted that she thought I was that ignorant and appalled that she treated me with such lack of respect. ![]() I asked for an e-mail address that I can send my request to and she gave me the info general e-mail address. I asked to speak with any manager who was available, she said there were no managers at the Liceu, adding they didn't work in the afternoon. I asked to whom she reported to and she said to the Director General del Liceu, again no true. I asked to speak with her supervisor, she told me she had none, which of course was not true. She just kept on repeating the tickets were not exchangeable. The agent told us the tickets were not exchangeable, I told her we realized that but under the circumstancies they could make an exception, I even showed her the death certificate. When we were in Barcelona for her funeral on 1/23 we went to the Box Office at El Liceu and told them my mother had died and we will not be in Barcelona in March as planned so we wanted to exchange the tickets for another performance when we will be in Barcelona again in May. We live in the US and had planned to be in Barcelona in early March for my mother's birthday, but sadly she passed away January 19. In January we purchased two tickets for a March 3 opera performance through a special "Gift Box" offer for 195 euros. We have been loyal patrons of the Liceu attending at least one opera or event every time we are in Barcelona 2-3 times a year but the way we were treated has made me reluctant to ever go back. El Liceu has no hart, no compassion and very poor management. ![]()
